With much of Mustang reeling from the ice storm, some residents are putting others before themselves.

Folks living at Strawberry Fields Senior Living Community in Mustang have been living in the dark for the past couple of days now, but they’ve seen a ray of light because of some kind neighbors.

On Monday night, the lights and heat went out at Strawberry Fields. Residents are navigating wheelchairs and walkers along dark hallways using flashlights.

Management reached out to this Marcos Pizza on West Highway 152, but the pizza shop didn’t have power, either.

“And they didn’t want to use soured dough,” resident Amanda George said. “So some of their younger employees, and I don’t know their names, went to Walmart and bought a whole bunch of groceries and donated it.”

Lots of groceries. Enough to keep the 65 people who live here fed for a while.

But there’s more. When word spread that folks here were in need, other neighbors stepped up bringing blankets and more food.

“It’s pretty amazing. Last night, someone from Yukon brought 65 meals. All packaged. They were chili, potatoes, cornbread, sour cream, and some kind of little goody bag to go with it,” George said.

Folks at Strawberry Fields said the love they’re feeling from complete strangers warms the coldest of days.

“I think it’s amazing, and I praise God for that because he’s laying it on their hearts to bring us the food,” said resident Brenda Neal.
