Local Startup Offers At-Home COVID-19 Testing Kits

An Oklahoma City startup is offering COVID-19 home tests.

Wheeler Labs is selling the kits, which include a FedEx overnight shipping package.

“Essentially, it’s an at home saliva test kit,” Wheeler Labs CEO Dr. Jesse McCool said.

The tests are FDA authorized, according to Wheeler, and the process is similar to that of a DNA test kit.

After spitting into a vial, the user overnights the test to the OKC lab, where it’s quickly processed.

“When we receive samples in the lab in the morning, around 10 or 11, we're generally able to do same day turnaround and results,” McCool said.

Customers include individuals, companies and clinics. The cost for one test is $125.

“Most of our business is in Oklahoma at the moment, but we are starting to get orders from Massachusetts and coastal states as well,” McCool said.
