OKC Mayor Asks Residents To Take More COVID-19 Precautions

As cases continue to spike, Oklahoma City mayor David Holt is asking residents to take precautions to prevent a wider COVID-19 spread.

“We're back in March and April,” Holt said. “This is back when you were willing to take it seriously, when you were willing to stay home.”

Holt encourages residents to return to a more isolated lifestyle. The mayor, however, said he is not ready to put restrictions on gatherings.

“I don't want to just do something to make ourselves feel like we did something, and we don't reduce the numbers in any significant degree, but we've put all the restaurants out of business,” Holt said.

Holt said he will push for an extension of the mask mandate so that it doesn't expire in early December.

“It's very real and, even if it seemingly hasn't affected you yet, you're one conversation away with a COVID-19 carrier from having a very negative response that changes your life forever,” Holt said.

According to Holt, leaders and public health officials are discussing additional responses. Nothing is off the table.
