A Bixby church has bought the property around it in a more than $20 million deal. Transformation Church's leaders hope to use the profits for philanthropy.
Lead pastor Michael Todd said they are the property owners here at Post Rock Plaza, which has more than 34 businesses as tenants. Pastor Todd said the church's goal is to give back.
Transformation Church near 101st and Memorial in Bixby bought the former Spirit Bank event center last year. It was a $10 million purchase that Todd said they paid for in six months.
"This has been an unbelievable journey for us," Todd said.
The church is located at the heart of the Post Rock Plaza.
Pastor Todd said since he became pastor five years ago, he's dreamed of the church owning the nearby property. Now, it is a reality.
"There's over 34 businesses that function out of this area, and we get the opportunity to have great relationships with them and see the future grow in this community," Todd said.
The church paid $20.5 million to own the property and Todd said the goal is to have a stronger presence in the community and give back.
"We wanted this to be an investment for the long term of our church, that we could be able to get revenue to bless our community," he said.
Oklahoma Hand and Physical therapy is a tenant at Post Rock Plaza.
Owner Rhonda Millet said she was told on Monday about the change. She said it has no impact on how she runs her business, but it's something she's happy about.
"They're going to do a lot of goodwill and the things we supply through paying our rent, I'm excited to see what they do," Millet said.
Todd said he hopes the church can make purchases like this in the future to continue spreading their message.
