When the previous owner of the Gray Owl Coffee shop in Norman announced the sale of the shop, the employees knew there was only one candidate to take over this business: themselves.
So, the six employees came together, developed a plan and purchase the coffee shop.
"We all kinda considered what it would take to run the shop as a collective, and one we put all of our heads together, it proved that six heads were better that one," new co-owner KT Murray said.
With new ideas and the excitement of owning a business, the six entered ownership of the coffee shop. All equal owners and all with equal determination and they feel they really have something special.
"We have a really wide range of options in terms of specialty coffee, but we also serve specialty teas like loose leaf teas. We also serve mostly organic and have a lot of options for our baked goods that we bake in house every day," said Murray.
There are still COVID-19 restrictions, so they are only doing carry out and curbside for now.
As soon as the restrictions are lifted, they said they anticipate poetry nights and music events to come back.
Some of these employees have worked at the coffee shop since they were 16 years old and never imagined owning it, but here they are, ready for the challenges, and excited for the future of Gray Owl Coffee.
