The Tulsa Health Department has canceled their vaccination clinic Thursday and Friday due to inclement weather concerns.
The department said their number on priority is people's safety, and right now they said it's just too slick at their vaccination site. The department has also canceled operations set for Monday, Feb. 15.
The department postponed appointments Wednesday as well. This affects about 6000 people who were scheduled to get the vaccine at expo square in Tulsa.
The health department automatically reschedules those appointments for next week when they have openings.
Health officials said they are working with the county to make sure areas around expo square are clear of ice. With extremely cold temperatures and snow forecast for this weekend, they said they may have to postpone more appointments and will decide on Sunday afternoon.
They are confident though that no vaccine will go to waste and everyone scheduled for an appointment will get a shot.
"We will not waste vaccine,” said Alicia Etgen with THD. “Any that we have taken out that were meant for today's operations, we have community partners who are doing operations over the weekend and will be able to get those into the arms of individuals before their due date, I believe would be Monday."
Health departments across the state are making decisions about whether to postpone appointments.
THD said those with appointments and those who were expected to return to receive a second dose on Thursday have been notified via their registered email.
Anyone who receives an email regarding the cancellation of their vaccination appointment will receive follow up instructions regarding their new appointment date and time and will not be required to reschedule or cancel their appointment manually.
