AAA Warns Snow Clogged Tailpipes Can Cause Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Officials with AAA said they have responded to over 900 calls as of 5 p.m. Tuesday as second winter storm arrives in Oklahoma.

One thing they want to remind people as they go out and wipe the snow from their cars is to remember to clean out their tailpipes – especially on the low-profile cars.

“If you go out and clear your windshield and get inside your car to get warm and your tailpipe is clogged with snow you can easily be asphyxiated in minutes by carbon monoxide,” said Leslie Gamble with AAA.
