Major Water Pump Failure Leaves Many Tulsans With No Water Or Low Pressure

Many Tulsa residents are without water on Thursday morning after a major water pump at the Mohawk Water Treatment Plant failed on Wednesday night leading to diminished water pressure for customers at the highest points in the City.

City officials are asking people in South Tulsa to use water sparingly as they work to get the pumps back up and running.

According to the City of Tulsa, a 30-million-gallon-per-day water pump at the Mohawk Water Treatment Plant was taken out of service due to a significant leak in the supporting piping. Officials attempted to engage a back-up pump however, it failed to start.

The news, that came in a post made on the City of Tulsa's Facebook page on Wednesday, stated that many Tulsans would experience low water pressure throughout Wednesday evening and into Thursday until crews could repair the damaged pump.

The city has not yet issued any sort of boil water advisory for the affected areas.

The city asked Tulsans and members of surrounding communities to minimize water usage to only essential use.

Officials said that they expect to have the back-up pump running again at some point on Thursday.

Southside Secondary Pressure Zone: E. 61st St. to E. 91st St., S. Harvard Ave. to S. Sheridan Road.

Near the Tulsa County Fairgrounds: E. 15th St. to E. 24th St., S. Harvard Ave. to S. Yale Ave.

Sunset Plaza Apartments service area: E. Independence Street and N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Turkey Mountain service area

Oakhurst service area: W. 61st St. to W. 71st St, S. - 33rd West Ave. to S. 65th West Ave.

Gilcrease Hills Secondary Pressure Zone: W. 36th Street North to W. Edison Ave., LL Tisdale Expressway to the Botanical Gardens

West Tulsa: West 31st St. to West 51st St.

Southwest Boulevard to S. 81st West Ave.

Woodcrest Service Area: South of Pine, S. 174th East Ave. to S. 193rd East Ave.

On Thursday, the River Spirit Expo will open at 10 a.m. for those who need to get water for their homes while the pumps are down in the area.

People will be able to pick-up water using their own containers by entering the south main lobby at Gate 2.
