The Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office said a teenager has died after she fell through the ice on a pond near Dewar.
Officials said they believe the 17-year-old girl went out to the pond to get her dog when she fell through the ice. Deputies said when her mother came home and found the dog in the pond and some clothing, she called 911.
The Henryetta Fire Department, Dewar Fire Department and Emergency Management and Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office responded and spent hours diving to try to rescue to her, with crews taking 15-minute shifts. They were unable to save her.
Someone who knows the girl told News On 6 she was well-liked and her loss will be felt deeply at the school and in the town.
This is the second tragedy like this just this week. On Monday night, a 53-year-old man died after falling through ice on Grand Lake while attempting to rescue both of his dogs that fell through as well.

Officials continue to caution everyone that even though ice may look thick on ponds right now, it's not and it's easy to fall through.
