Dewar Public Schools Identifies 17-Year-Old Who Died Falling Through Ice

Dewar Public Schools has identified the 17-year-old girl who drowned in an icy pond Thursday as Tristan Gaither.

The district said she was a junior.

The Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office said they believe the Gaither went out to the pond to get her dog when she fell through the ice. Deputies said when her mother came home and found the dog in the pond and some clothing, she called 911.
