Family Reacts After OKC Woman Takes Blind Plea, Ordered 1-Year Review After Killing Of Their Loved One

An Oklahoma City woman was sentenced this week to prison time for the 2019 killing of her friend. 

The victim's father said he knew Grace Huff, 22, would be convicted of first-degree manslaughter. However, Chris Sullivan was surprised when the judge ordered the woman to reappear for a one-year review.

“We now have to face this all over again in a year,” said Sullivan, victim’s father. “So we were not happy about that at all.” 

Sullivan lost his 20-year-old daughter, Montana Sullivan, in December 2019. The Missouri-native was in Oklahoma City visiting family for Christmas. 

Sullivan was shot in the head in the backseat of a car. Huff was also riding in the car and had a gun.

Huff was charged with first-degree murder. It was amended to second-degree murder, and finally in a blind plea this week, Huff was convicted of manslaughter. She will serve 10 years in prison and 10 years out on probation.

Sullivan fears all of that could change in one year.

“Essentially in a year, the judge could commute the sentence,” said Sullivan. “He could lower it to five years. He could do whatever he deems necessary.”

Sullivan said Huff will also have the opportunity to appeal the sentence.

Last July, Huff's attorney told the judge the shooting was a tragic accident.

Police said Huff fired several times out the car window before a final bullet hit Sullivan.

Huff apologized to the victim's family at her sentencing.

“I think she has some remorse to a degree,” said Sullivan. 

The Sullivan family will now wait another agonizing year.

“We just simply wanted justice for our daughter,” said Sullivan. “In one aspect of it, we were given that and on the hand, it was taken right away from us.” 

Huff's attorney told News 9 he did not want to comment at this time due to Huff's pending review next March.
