Pawhuska is being transformed as crews prepare to film the movie "Killers of the Flower Moon."

Some businesses moved to make room for production crews and sets.

Storefronts in downtown Pawhuska are transforming as crews prepare to film, and people can not wait to see their town represented.

The goal is to make Kihekah Avenue look just like it is from a century ago for the Martin Scorsese film "Killers of the Flower Moon," which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

"It's kind of exciting," said Jody Martin, the owner of Hometown Appliance. "They wandered in one day and said 'Hey, would you be interested?'"

Jody Martin owns Hometown Appliance. His two big buildings are now empty, and under construction, and will be part of the set for the movie, while his business has been relocated to a temporary spot until the end of July.

Martin said the production crew paid for him to relocate his business during filming.

"Martin Scorsese has been in my store twice," Martin said.

A popular café next door is also stripped of its awning and signs.

"They're going to put dirt on the streets a couple of blocks and make that look like an authentic street from the 1920 era, and have older cars driving up and down," said Roger Taylor.

Pawhuska Mayor Roger Taylor said there are also plans to build train tracks and replicate a station that looks like the 1920s.

He said all the attention will bring a huge economic boost for the town.

"While they're here, there's going to be some great things happening to Pawhuska," Taylor said.

Martin agrees. He said the town is already packed with the Mercantile, and now more tourists have shown up in anticipation of the film.

"They're sightseers now looking to see movie stars," said Martin.

Filming should start in a month or two and should last for a few weeks.
