Health officials think this pandemic will one day turn into an endemic, more of a seasonal virus like the flu, but polling shows some Oklahomans will not get the vaccine at all.
"In Oklahoma City, we had a 10,000 dose clinic, and they had to open to walk-ins because they were having trouble filling the slots. I think we are going to see it happen a lot more," said Dr. Dale Bratzler with OU Health.
Bratzler said health officials are begging Oklahomans to take the vaccine.
In Oklahoma, the state has seen a rush to get the vaccine in the past with many waiting to reserve their appointment.
Now, the state is in phase 4 of the vaccination plan. It is opening the vaccine to anyone 16 and older, and the rush to get the vaccine is not there because of boosted supply.
Two large pods are happening this week. IMMY Labs still has appointments available for Monday and Wednesday.
Bratzler said when the vaccine is readily available in physicians' offices, it could ease nerves, but public health officials are focused on educating the state.
At 2 p.m. Monday, Gov. Kevin Stitt will make remarks announcing phase 4 of the vaccine rollout.
The concerns rise as the end goal is to get 70% of the population at herd immunity. Right now, 17% of the state is fully vaccinated.
