Opening statements are set to begin in the trial of Michael Nealey, the man charged with killing former Mannford Police Chief Lucky Miller. On Monday, a six-person jury was selected for the trial.
Nealey is charged with murdering Miller, his boss at the time, inside of a hotel room. The two were in Florida attending a training seminar in 2019 when the incident occurred.
Court documents stated a maintenance worker found Nealey sitting on top of Chief Miller inside of the hotel room. They also stated Miller’s face was badly swollen and Nealey had swelling in his hands and cuts on his nose and lip.
Investigators said alcohol was a factor in the altercation. Nealey’s attorney has argued video on Miller’s phone would prove his client did not have any criminal intent and said nobody really knows what went down.
The trial is taking place in Florida.
