An Oklahoma City Police officer was involved in a shooting near Northeast 52nd and MLK after someone attacked him overnight.

According to police, around 2:15 Saturday morning, an officer was responding to another call when a red vehicle sideswiped the police officer's vehicle. The officer began to slow down but the red vehicle picked up speed and slammed the officer's vehicle. Police say after both vehicles came to a stop the suspect got out of the car and started shooting at the officer.

The officer was unable to exit his vehicle but did return fire.

The suspect was injured during the exchange and has been taken to the hospital for his injuries, the officer was not injured.

“We have our fatality team out here reconstructing the accident. So it's too early to tell what the motive was. What this suspect, what this person was thinking that caused these actions,” said OKCPD Captain Daniel Stewart.

The road will be blocked off north and southbound on Martin Luther King near the science museum while the investigation is underway.
