2 Kansas Men Arrested After String Of Robberies, Thefts From Oklahoma Dispensaries

Oklahoma City police last week arrested Marvin Crosby, 18, and Dametrius Turner, 19, following a string of robberies and thefts in multiple Oklahoma cities. 

Sgt. Megan Morgan said the first incident occurred on April 20 at 405 Relief on N. Pennsylvania Ave. 

A probable cause affidavit said Crosby and two others attempted to rob the medical marijuana dispensary. Police said the group disarmed the business’ security guard and held him at gunpoint as they entered the store. A staff member fired towards the suspects, who then returned fire and left, police said. 

Oklahoma City police responded to several other incidents at dispensaries about two weeks later, between May 3 and 6. 

On May 3, Green Day, a dispensary on N. Penn. Ave., was robbed after someone climbed through the drive-thru window claiming to have a gun. The clerk told police the robber ordered him to the ground and took more than $10,000 worth of product. 

The employee told police the suspect was wearing a black or blue zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants with a white stripe down each side. 

On the same day, security cameras at Project Releaf captured someone in a similar outfit stealing more than $1,000 worth of merchandise and leaving. The night prior, someone smashed the front door of a downtown OKC dispensary repeatedly with a brick, according to police reports, but nothing was taken. 

Two dispensaries in Perry and Guthrie had items stolen on May 5. 

Perry police said someone robbed Down to Cloud just before 7 p.m. The suspect, wearing a blue hoodie and black pants with a white stripe, was seen on security footage stealing a dozen jars of marijuana and other items while the sole employee was not looking. 

Zachary Johnson, the manager of Doobies in Guthrie, was the only person working when a suspect wearing a similar outfit walked in around 8 p.m. 

The suspect had his hood up and was wearing a mask. “I could literally only see about 3 inches of his face,” Johnson said. 

After talking briefly, the suspect walked behind the counter and threatened Johnson. 

The suspect “kind of flinch punched at me,” Johnson said. “He said he had a knife. I didn’t really know if he was going to be aggressive or if I could scare him off.” 

Johnson moved to allow the suspect to access the display cases and immediately grabbed his pistol from behind the cash register. The suspect jumped the counter and ran off as Johnson fired one shot that struck a wall. 

“I tried to stay calm as to not give him a sense that I was nervous or anything like that. I think that’s what thwarted it for the most part. There at the end, he finally got the nerve up and tried it,” Johnson said. 

Thursday, May 6, police said Crosby went to Project Releaf looking for a lost credit card and was recognized by an employee. 

“As he was in the store, an employee recognized him from a prior larceny earlier that week,” Morgan said. 

According to police reports, Crosby ran from officers and jumped into a car driven by Dametrius Turner, who drove above 100 mph before police arrested them both. 

Morgan said Oklahoma County prosecutors accepted charges against Crosby including “A pattern of criminal offenses, multiple counts of robbery with a firearm, attempted robbery, strongarm robbery burglary and grand larceny.” 

Crosby and Turner are booked at the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Morgan said prosecutors are expected to file charges Thursday.
