3 Arrested Near Goldsby Following Multi-County Pursuit With Metro Law Enforcement

A metro suspect trapped himself and his passengers on a dead-end road in McClain County during a Memorial Day multi-county pursuit. The driver allegedly started the pursuit with Oklahoma City police after being pulled over on a traffic stop. 

A traffic stop near Interstate 44 and Southwest 29th did not go the way the officer had planned. Instead, 35-year-old Bryon Ronquillo kept driving, ignoring the officer.

“For whatever reason, the vehicle did not stop,” said MSgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “There were three people inside of the car.”

The driver's passengers were later identified as Jennifer Bennett, 41, and 46-year-old Walter Jackson.

Police said Ronquillo kept driving on I-44, eventually he exited near Blanchard and Newcastle. At that point Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers got involved in the chase and McClain County deputies stepped in when Ronquillo drove south of Norman.

Police said the chase went on for miles because the suspect driver never put the public at risk.

“The speed limit was never really exceeded, there was no swerving into oncoming traffic or trying to ram other vehicles,” Knight said. “In fact, in many of the places of this pursuit there was no other traffic around whatsoever.”

The nearly 40-minute chase came to an end near the Goldsby airport when Ronquillo took a turn down a dead-end road.

“There was no outlet, there was a wooded area nearby,” Knight said. “All three jumped out and eventually ran.”

However, police said the foot pursuit was short lived. Officers caught Bennet and Jackson and a K-9 tracked down Ronquillo in the woods.

Court records showed Ronquillo has been charged several times for stealing or driving a stolen vehicle.

All three suspects are in custody in the Oklahoma County Detention Center on multiple complaints stemming from the chase. They have not been officially charged by the Oklahoma County District Attorney.
