Norman Regional Health Systems is expanding their healthcare options for patients and will soon breaking ground on a new freestanding emergency room.
The hospital said it selected the location for the new emergency center because this is a rapidly growing part of southeast Norman. The facility will give people faster access to medical help.
The new facility will be called Norman Regional 9, which will break ground at 10 a.m. Thursday.
The more than 45,000-square foot building is the first step in a multi-building transformation plan that Norman Regional is calling "Inspire Health.'" The hospital hopes to bring more services within the Norman Regional Health System.
Norman Regional 9 will be open 24 hours a day and will be staffed by board certified physicians.
"We can do all the highest levels of care, providing high quality care, quick diagnosis and appropriate triage if and when necessary," Norman Regional Health Systems chief executive officer Richie Splitt said.
Construction is expected to be complete until at least 2022.
