Thousands Of Fans Head To OKC For Women’s College World Series

The Women’s College World Series is back after being canceled last year due to COVID-19. This year, more than 10,000 fans are getting ready to pack into USA Softball Stadium for the last round of the NCAA tournament. 

“You're right on top of the action and there's a lot more action than there is in women's softball than there is in baseball,” OSU fan Tim West said. 

People from all around the country hopped in their cars and made the trek to Oklahoma City. Chastity Smith said she took the trip this year with her mom. She’s grateful they had the opportunity to see the WCWS live. 

“My mom she's getting older going downhill a little bit as far as health,” Smith said. 

Some fans say they are just here to enjoy a good softball game while others are hoping to see their team knock it out of the park. 

Games at the stadium will allow full capacity. Fans will also notice additional seats have been added to the ballpark, bringing seating in the stadium to 9,000. With standing room included, 11,500 fans can pack in to watch their favorite teams.  

“Seventy-five percent of our attendants on the opening weekend, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning come from out of state so this is a huge economic impact to Oklahoma City. We estimated about $24 million for this one-week event,” Craig Cress, CEO of USA Softball said. 

The games on Thursday and Saturday night are already sold out. There are only a couple tickets left for Saturday morning and Sunday sessions.
