It’s a problem that’s become all too common, ATM thefts.
“There has been quite a few in southern Missouri, northern Texas, Arkansas and Colorado. It’s almost like they are hitting this five-state region pretty hard,” said Cass Rains with the Enid Police Department.
Enid police said in the last couple of months they’ve had four cases. The suspects in one of the videos that was released got away with some cash.
“It’s basically the same type of method and operation each time,” said Rains.
Investigators said in every case they steal some type of truck before hitting the ATM. The suspects even use similar tools then they ditch the truck.
“They typically abandon them a couple of blocks from the ATM that they hit. It’s generally in a neighborhood, a darker neighborhood that doesn’t have many streetlights. They will just abandon them leave them in the road running,” he said.
Rains said in each case the suspects could face theft charges. In the cases where they got away with money the charge goes up to grand theft.
“The fact that they are wearing masks and disguising themselves fairly well wearing hooded sweatshirts it’s hard to say with any sort of certainty whether it’s the same people or not,” he said.
The latest attempted burglary was Wednesday morning. If you have any information that can help investigators, call the Enid Police Department.
