Oklahoma City police arrested a man on Wednesday in connection with a murder at a local medical marijuana dispensary.
Police took Ryan Boyd, 29, into custody less than 24 hours after starting the investigation.
Police said Boyd and Adrian Brown, 34, met Tuesday night in the parking lot of American Cannabis in southwest Oklahoma City. However, the meeting was not friendly.
“It’s really unclear what this all stemmed from,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, Oklahoma City Police Department. “It was believed the victim met with other individuals in the parking lot there. An altercation of some sort took place.” \
Boyd is accused of shooting at Brown several times. Bullets hit the victim and a business across the street, and then Boyd ran away from the scene, police said.
Residents on SW 66th Street near Western Avenue were startled by the gunfire.
“We heard some rapid shots,” said Joana Cornell, a witness. “It was like dut, dut, dut, dut, dut.”
Cornell said it is not unusual to hear gunshots in their neighborhood, but it is always unsettling. She said what made the shooting even harder was seeing the victim.
“The ambulance came up and when they did, I noticed they were doing chest compressions on the victim,” said Cornell. “And then they just kind of stopped.”
Brown died from the gunshot, and it did not take investigators long to track down the suspect. Boyd was arrested and booked into jail Wednesday evening, less than 24 hours after the shooting.
Cornell had this to say to the victim's family after watching their loved one's tragic end.
“They certainly tried their best to revive him, the victim,” said Cornell. “They were doing chest compressions almost on top of him and they quit when they put him in the ambulance.”
Boyd is currently being held in the Oklahoma County Detention Center without bond.
