Tulsa police say a man is in custody after getting into an argument with his 14-year-old son and then stabbing him multiple times. Officers said the incident happened inside of an apartment near 51st and Yale on Wednesday night.
Investigators said someone who saw the victim walking around called police shortly after 9 p.m. Officers then made their way to an apartment inside the Crossings at Midtown complex.
Police said the argument between the father and son was over a cell phone. They said things turned violent after the dad grabbed a knife and stabbed his son in the arm.
Investigators said the dad also tried to stab the son in the ribs but the blade broke off in his arm, so instead, he started punching his son in the head. Police said the boy was able to leave the apartment and get help.
The victim told Tulsa police that his dad had been drinking all day. When officers arrived, officers reported that they could see the father walking around inside the apartment but at first he was refusing to come out.
“We got his phone number,” said Cpt. Jerrod Hart, Tulsa Police. “We were able to make the phone call, spoke to him about coming out and talking to us and he willingly came out to give his side of the story.”
Police said they were then able to take the father into custody. They said he would be interviewed by detectives before going to jail and his name has not been released.
Officers said the boy was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
