A popular neighborhood park in Owasso reopened Friday nearly a year after it closed for renovations. New playground equipment, walking trails and parking spots have been added to the area.
Larry Langford, Recreation Director for the City of Owasso, told News On 6 the project cost just over $1 million. The reopening took a little longer than the city had hoped for because of adjustments made to the park’s pond.
Langford said crews had to physically change the environment of the pond to make it more stable. The renovations to the pond will allow more storm water to be retained.
Once the pond gets enough water, Langford said fish will be added. Crews are still working to finish one of the parking areas near the park.
As the finishing touches are put on Elm Creek Park, work is just getting started on a massive upgrade at “Funtastic Island” on the other side of town. Renovations for the park are expected to be completed by next spring.
