A women's basketball team full of ladies sixty years and older is looking for new teammates.

The Oklahoma Hot Shots aren't your average basketball team, but the players are just as fierce. The Hicks Park Community Center opened its gym to the team for practice. The team is made up of ladies 60 and older.

"To play again at this age is so different. It is very competitive in the tournament but here in practice, we just have a good time- we work hard but we are mindful that we are the age we are," said Oklahoma Hot Shots player, Angela Swift.

The team has eight ladies on the roster right now, including Sherrill and Angela.

"12 - it was my number when I was in school," said Angela.

She is talking about the basketball team she played on back when she was in the 4th and 8th grade with Sherrill, whose jersey number was 14. They are still sporting those same jersey numbers.

"Now over 50 years later, she and I are back playing basketball together and we love it," said Angela.

Their coach has the game of basketball running through his blood.

"You would not believe the progress these ladies have made and what I think is more important than anything is they enjoy each other's company," said Coach Mike Tameny.

He was an educator for 40 years and coached most of that time.

"There was something missing in my life, and they gave it back to me. They gave me the challenge of working in a sport I enjoy, and I love and appreciate every one of them," said Coach Tameny.

The Hot Shots placed 3rd in the 60 plus age bracket and qualified for the National Senior Games. They are looking for new players.

"We have ladies who practice with us who are 81 and up but we really need some people at the younger ages 50, 55, 60, 65, and no experience required! We have ladies who have never played on a basketball team until now," said Angela.

If you are interested in playing you can contact the Hicks Park Community Center at 918-596-1520. Practices are 10 a.m. to 12:30 Wed-Fri.

There is also a team for women 70 and over named the Happy Hoopers. For details about that team, call 918-749-2623.
