Saint Patrick Catholic Church’s Fall Carnival Is Back After Taking A Break Due To The Pandemic

After taking a year off, the Saint Patrick Catholic Church fall carnival is back. The carnival represents the many cultures of their parish.

“We’re all one community. We may be some Guatemalans, some Mexicans, some Americans, some Vietnamese, but we’re all one community,” Gabriella Zamarripa said.

Many vendors at the carnival are members of the St. Patrick Catholic Church. With fellowship, fun and food, they're hoping to invite people to try a new dish from someone else's culture.

While trying out the different vendors, Shae Songers shared what's unique about her culture.

“This is from my mom's recipe from the island of Guam. She's since passed, and I just carry on her tradition,” Songers said.

Father Joseph Arledge said this year’s fall carnival represents unity.

“Being able to help everyone realize that this pandemic doesn't have the last word, and we can still have fun as a parish and come together,” Arledge said.

Arledge said the more than 70-year-old church needs some upgrades. He hopes the money raised from the carnival will help with church renovations.

“Last year, it really hurt us significantly with lower people, Mass attendance, lower giving overall because of the pandemic with people staying home and last year this fundraiser really hurt our funds,” Deacon Duane Fischer said.

A few renovations that the church is looking into include a better sound system and kitchen renovations.
