An October attraction is bringing haunts and scares to Green Country. It's the 25th year for the Halloween Festival at the Castle of Muskogee.
Inside the haunted house at the Castle of Muskogee, you never know what might pop out and surprise you.
"Started out as a one weekend event, just two events inside the castle, and it has grown to what it is today,” said Matt Hiller, Castle of Muskogee co-owner.
There are eight haunted attractions, all rated based on how spooky they are. For example, the haunted houses are level five, the highest on the scale.
"We try and throw different stuff at people because you don't want to see the same stuff every year,” Hiller said.
Hiller said each haunt changes every year.
He said crews start setting up after the Fourth of July when the Castle sells fireworks. Then, it's transformed into the Halloween Festival starting at 5:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday this month.
Hiller said from dancing in the village, a haunted hayride, and an enchanted train ride, kids can enjoy the festival too. The village includes gift shops, food, and drinks.
But if being scared is your thing, you can go on a Zombie Hunt or the Trail of Blood, where you get dropped off in the woods to find your way back.
The two haunted houses, Casa Morte and Dormus Horrificus, are inside the castle.
"I wouldn't want to have another job. This is fun, it changes every day,” Hiller said.
He said one change this year, another kids’ attraction, Halloween Land is closed due to the pandemic.
Masks are required inside the attractions.
"It's worth the trip,” Hiller said.
Tickets are available online and at the door.
