A Green Country mom and baby girl are going to be okay after she gave birth eight weeks early while on a ventilator in the ICU with COVID-19.
Jacob and Sierra Nelson say their baby Oakley is a miracle, and they are just happy Sierra got better and could meet her daughter.
Sierra Nelson tested positive for COVID-19 on September 23rd at 32 weeks pregnant.
"I was really hoping I would get to meet my daughter and get to be there and I was like if I don't make it at least I know she has a great dad and a good family that loves her," Sierra said.
She was put in the hospital and had to go on a ventilator on October 3rd.
Her husband Jacob and mother-in-law Chana Nelson, along with other friends and family, met in the hospital parking lot every night, praying for Sierra to get better and the baby to be okay.
"With what the doctors tell you, this is not the outcome I expected, I did not expect her to walk out of here," Chana Nelson said.
Oakley was born on October 6th while Sierra was on the ventilator.
She says she never imagined her first pregnancy would be like this, but she's grateful she was strong enough to get off the ventilator and meet her baby girl.
"Whenever I got released, I went right over there, even without shoes on," she said.
Jacob says this has been rough for their family, but they feel blessed both Sierra and Oakley are going to be okay.
He says they couldn't have got through this without the doctors and nurses and their faith and relationship with God.
"We're just ready to move on, this was tough but God brought us through it, and we're just ready to see what he has for us next," Jacob said.
Oakley is still in the hospital, but Sierra and Jacob hope she will be released this week.
