Group Of Tulsa Lawyers Launch New Initiative To Support Foster Children

A group of lawyers in the Tulsa area are working on a new initiative to help foster children and their families.

Tulsa Lawyers for Children said it plans to give children "Connection Crates," which are designed to help them feel a connection to their birth parents.

Included in the crates are heartbeat recordings, a voice message, and sensory items from a child's biological parents. The goal is to give kids comfort.

Tulsa’s Lawyers for Children says removal from a home, no matter the circumstances, can be traumatic, especially when it comes to early childhood development.

Leaders with the organization say they often push for more visitation rights, but sometimes that’s not possible.

The organization said it hopes these connection crates can increase the bond between a parent and a child who’s been removed.

“My hope for the great outcome is that these kids can associate all this warmth and goodness from these parents they don’t necessarily have access to on a daily basis and these behaviors that we worry about can dissipate,” attorney Kalan Chapman Lloyd said.

Tulsa Lawyers for Children is encouraging people to support them by donating to help create a crate. Each one costs $250.
