Health leaders say a new and more contagious COVID-19 variant, Delta Plus, is now in the U.S.
Oklahoma's health experts say the variant has not spread across the country yet and they believe the virus could be spreading slower because of the natural immunity created during the Delta surge in the summer.
"The people that have natural immunity to COVID supposedly from the Delta variant will lose that immunity. If they do not get vaccinated, they will become susceptible again and it may be a Delta plus variant," Dr. Mary Clarke, M.D. and President of Oklahoma State Medical Association said.
They say Delta Plus is causing concern in the U.K., where it accounts for about 70% of that countries new cases.
