Two years ago, News 9 was the first to report about plans to renovate the abandoned and dilapidated Lincoln Plaza Hotel on Lincoln Boulevard in Oklahoma City.
This week, the newly renovated space will start welcoming tenants as the Presley Apartments.
“I would not start that project today. It’s a good thing we had a lot of stuff under contract,” said developer Richard Tanenbaum, CEO of Gardner Tanenbaum Holdings.
The project began a month before the pandemic started, but construction never stopped for long.
“It has cost a lot more but I think it will be worthwhile,” Tanenbaum said.
The finished project is one that mirrors the original hotel in many ways.
The retro feel is both for style and savings.
“We were able to do it because of the wonderful tax credits,” said Tanenbaum.
Residents can lease the room overlooking Lincoln Boulevard where the Elvis Presley stayed on concert tours.
Other units have floor to ceiling windows out to courtyards and the kidney shaped pool area.
“It’s going to be a party,” said Tanenbaum.
The developer touts the 23 amenity areas, including where guests can buy food and coffee.
Around 100 of the 318 units have already been rented with developers crediting its proximity to the OU Health Science Center.
“This is for the young folks and they are going to have a great time here,” Tanenbaum said.
