Kids participating in sports seems like a normal activity. However, for kids with disabilities, there simply aren’t many options.
The Courage League Association, an adaptive baseball league in Moore, is an option open for all ages.
“It’s kind of nice because it lets the parents that typically would have to run the bases with their kids, be able to sit back and take pictures of their kid playing a game,” parent Jackie Costlow said.
The league began three years ago and is making all the difference in the children’s lives.
The league recently received their 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, and now raising money to build a baseball field specific for the needs of disabled players.
The field has wider baselines and bigger dugouts to accommodate wheelchairs in addition to a message scoreboard to alert fans of sensory issues with specific players.
There is no charge to play in the league and there are no paid positions within the organization.
“It’s a league where everyone understands: There’s no judging. There’s no anything. It’s just family, really,” Costlow said.
If you would like to find out more about the Courage League or to help with donations, visit their Facebook page which is called Courage League Association.
