If you're looking for a fall weekend outing, the Broken Arrow Ice Rink in the Rose District is now open.
Daria Logoutine's family owns 11 ice rinks in Oklahoma and Texas, including the one in Broken Arrow. She says ice-skating runs in the family starting with her dad.
"He was a professional ice dancer. , he actually skated for the Soviet National team. He won junior worlds in 1989,” Logoutine said.
Logoutine says a few years later, her dad visited an outdoor skating rink in the United States and wanted to have his own. She says he got a contract in downtown Oklahoma City after the first season, and it's grown ever since.
Her family's business started 17 years ago, and Logoutine says she was only six years old when the first rink opened.
While it's tradition for many families to come here each year, it's also tradition for hers.
"So basically, this is all I know growing up is that holiday time means ice rink time, means work time,” Logoutine said. "Really the ice rinks are like a part of the family themselves, so it's hard to imagine the wintertime without it."
The ice rink is open every day including holidays until January 3.
