Moore Police Boosting Patrols Around Holiday Season

Moore Police Department said they're increasing their enforcement efforts this holiday season. Moore PD said they notice during the holidays not just more traffic, but property crimes as well.

Lieutenant Kyle Johnson with Moore PD said the business district in Moore is known for having heavy traffic, but during the holidays it can be a hotspot for crime and accidents.

“We've received multiple complaints of red-light running, more specifically just people not running the red light, but not having an adequate distance to get through the intersection so they ultimately end up blocking traffic,” Lt, Johnson said.

With the holidays approaching, Moore PD said they're deploying extra resources to patrol the roadways.

“The motoring public is getting out on the weekends starting their Christmas shopping, we're approaching Black Friday with thanksgiving approaching and so we're just getting ahead of that,” Lt. Johnson said.

This time of the year brings some holiday cheer, but it could trigger seasonal depression for others.

“Sometimes the memories of those holidays are always not the greatest for some people especially people who are grieving or who have lost their loved ones and unfortunately sometimes that just causes people to

make poor decisions to drink and get behind the wheel,” Lt. Johnson said.

Moore PD said they don't want to see anyone on the roadways getting hurt. During the holiday season, they are encouraging people to be aware of their surroundings.

“To ladies who are carrying purses, make sure you're not leaving your purses unattended. A little tip that I would say is if you leave your purse in the shopping cart take the strap for the child seat in the shopping cart and actually put it through the handle of the purse and clip it to the basket,” Lt. Johnson said.

Lieutenant Johnson said he expects there to be an increased presence through the new year.
