First Lady Doctor Jill Biden visited the Cherokee Immersion School in Tahlequah on Friday.
Dr. Biden and U.S Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland touched down in Tulsa around 2:15 Friday afternoon. She met with First Lady Sarah Stitt on the plane and then spoke with Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum on the tarmac before driving to Tahlequah.
From the airport, Biden and Haaland traveled to the Cherokee Nation's Cherokee Immersion School where she spoke about the importance of preserving native languages.
"We're going to invest in your community and in the revitalization of Native languages. This is so important to us. We want you to know that President Biden and his administration are a partner to you. I hope you know that. We stand with the Cherokee Nation," said Biden.
The Cherokee nation also shared its plans with the First Lady to open another immersion school next year.
