Gifts that were popular to receive in the ’60s and ’70s are making a big comeback this Christmas.

Sports Cards and Vinyl saw record sales throughout the pandemic and now they’re sticking around for the holidays.

"Every generation has collected at some point in their life," said Co-Owner of S&S Sports Cards, Adam Thomas.

Trading cards sales surged during the pandemic.

Thomas believes that's because people staying home discovered card collecting again or became reinspired by their kids or grandkids.

"Even if it was the 50's and you opened it just to get the gum," said Thomas. "Anything that reminds you of being a kid when you didn't have any worries, you gravitate towards that."

Even though baseball cards have been around since the late 18-hundreds, the industry is especially seeing the demand grow for new sports cards.... and people are paying high dollar for them.

"This is select basketball it has two autographs, one memorabilia card a box it's selling for $1,050 a box," said Thomas.

Not only are brand new boxes of cards seeing an increase in price, but rookie cards are also selling for record-high prices.

"The value and the money is higher than it's ever been," said Thomas.

Record Sales also surged during the pandemic.

"The sound quality is good and people are gathered around the house so why not play some great music," said the Owner of Studio Records, Mike Nobles.

Although most stores were closed, people of all ages still found a way to expand their collections.

"Lots of young kids are getting into it and people that used to have turntables have gotten them out of storage or bought new ones and are getting back into vinyl," said Nobles.

Nobles says lately they've been having trouble getting new records in because there aren't enough presses to produce them anymore, but that hasn't stopped people from playing the classics.

"A lot of times they'll go back to stuff from the '60s or '70s and they'll get the new stuff it's really kind of amazing to see," said Nobles.

Inspiring a younger generation to appreciate an old hobby.

"To see a big influx of young kids getting into the hobby is huge because we didn't think this generation was going to happen," said Thomas.

Thomas says he hopes kids don't just get inspired by the money that can be made off cards, he hopes kids enjoy the process of opening the boxes and collecting the cards more.
