As of Tuesday morning, COVID cases are surpassing the last surge we saw back in August.

Health officials are chalking it up to the rapid spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant.

Local doctors said that symptoms seem to be milder with the Omicron variant.

Although you can't make a diagnosis of the variant based on symptoms alone, doctors said some symptoms with the Omicron variant may be like the original strain or Delta, but there are a few that seem to be a bit different.

The symptoms that seem to be the most common are congestion, nasal congestion, tight upper airways, runny nose, sore throat and fatigue.

A lot of the common cold symptoms people expect.

A headache is another common symptom.

Unlike other variants, loss of taste and smell appears to be less common.

Dr. Mary Clarke, the President Of The Oklahoma State Medical Association, said it is a good idea to get tested if you feel any of the symptoms mentioned.

"Try not to be overly comfortable if you start having symptoms yesterday and you get a test today. Keep in mind, it really does need 3 to 5 days from the onset of symptoms to have a good test and a good answer for you. "

With Omicron surging, doctors are also encouraging those eligible for a booster dose to get one.
