People in Muskogee can now ride electric scooters through downtown.
The scooters were introduced on January 24.
The goal is to give people something fun to do while exploring their city.
The mayor said bringing in electric scooters is part of a larger plan to revitalize downtown Muskogee.
“About a year ago we stood in this very place and said to the residents that we would do what we could to revitalize downtown. And this is one small step towards doing that by making downtown a live, work, and play destination,” said Marlon Coleman, the Mayor of Muskogee.
He said people have said they want more things to do in downtown and he’s listened.
“They have expressed an avid desire to have more recreation, fun things to do,” said Coleman. “And I think the partnership that we have with BIRD scooters is going to give them that opportunity.”
He wants people to enjoy the scooters but said there’s a lot of great things happening in Muskogee.
“We are doing what we can to be certain that people want to be here, we want them to enjoy what God has blessed us here in our city,” Coleman said.
25 scooters are on the streets now.
Eventually there will be 100 scooters for people to rent and ride.
