In preparation for the winter weather, Oklahoma law enforcement has some safety tips you'll need to know.
They posted videos on Twitter this week outlining some basic winter weather tips.
First, if you don't need to leave the house when roads are bad, don't. Just stay home.
Before a winter storm hits, make sure your tires are properly inflated and have sufficient tread.
They say you should make sure your car has plenty of gas and keep warm clothes and blankets in your car, those will be helpful if you get stuck.
Before you start driving, completely clear your windows, roof and hood. Snow blowing off your roof can be a hazard for other drivers.
Sgt. Christy Yokley of the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office says, "Taking a few simple steps, you can get your family and yourself safely to your destination this winter."
Yokley also says if you have to leave the house, reduce your speed, increase your following distance and remember that if your wipers are on, your headlights should be too.
Lastly, don't leave your car unattended when you're warming it up. Police say that makes it a target for thieves.
