Winter weather is expected to impact most of the state this week. AAA is offering tips for drivers who have to commute in the storm.

Experts recommend checking your car battery and making sure your tires are aired up and have tread on them. They also say to have windshield wipers that are in good condition.

Rock salt or kitty litter is recommended to help get traction if your car gets stuck in the snow. In case you get stuck, keep a phone charger, a blanket and lightly-colored clothing inside of your car until you can be rescued.

“Now is the time to get everything ready,” said Leslie Gamble, a spokesperson for AAA. “The safest place for you to be during a big snow event is at home.”

Gamble says 69,000 Oklahomans were helped last winter. She says to plan ahead if you do have to travel for longer commute times.
