Tulsa firefighters say a trash can that caught fire is the cause for a hotel going up in flames near I-44 and the Broken Arrow Expressway on Monday night. Authorities say as many as 75 people could be displaced as a result of the fire.

Crews were called to America’s Best Value Inn around 9:30 p.m. on Monday. Firefighters say a trash can fire spread outside of a unit spread to several other rooms.

Smoke damage reached all three levels of the building because of an elevator shaft next to the burning trash can. One person had to be checked out by paramedics but is expected to be alright.

Firefighters say the building was evacuated and no other injuries were reported.

Investigators have not released any information on how the trash can initially caught fire.
