Not much is left of a building in downtown Sperry after a car crashed into the front and caused a fire early Sunday morning.
Firefighters said they were able to get the car and the driver out before they started fighting the fire.
Residents say this fire changes the original landscape of the town.
“I think it’s probably going to put a void,” said Robert Vonfeldt. “That’s kind of been, a, you come up Main Street and that’s what you see. And now there’s a hole in the middle of it.”
Witnesses describe a chaotic scene as several fire departments worked to get the fire under control.
“Everything started collapsing. The front of the building started collapsing, firefighters were bouncing out of the way, power lines were catching on fire, it was chaos,” said William Pratt.
Sperry Fire Chief Jim Hall says he is thankful for the agencies in neighboring towns that stepped up to help.
“It’s been a wild scene, but we were very lucky to get Tulsa, Black Dog, Country Corners, Skiatook, Owasso, Turley, had a lot of great help here from a lot of different departments so just a lot of hands and eyes on scene to really help us,” said Hall.
