The Tulsa Farmers Market kicked off its 2022 season in the Kendall Whittier District on the corner of Admiral and Lewis on Saturday.
This year marks 25 years in operation for the Tulsa Farmers Market.
Dozens of people visited the Tulsa Farmers Market on opening day to enjoy food and shopping.
Shoppers like Angela Nguyen are glad to see the market returning to its summer hours.
“We’re just so excited that the farmers market is open again and enjoy supporting local farmers and local craftspeople, and it’s just a fun day for the family,” said Nguyen.
Vendors take pride in their fresh food and homemade items and say people should stop by to support Tulsa area businesses.
“Everything is fresh, the vegetables that people have are grown locally, you’re supporting locally grown businesses, and everybody just needs to come out and see it even if you don’t have room to grow something,” said Alan Rau, a vendor.
Each item at the market comes directly from vendors.
Executive Director Kris Hutto says that is what makes the Tulsa Farmer’s Market so special.
“We are unique because we are a producer-only market, so there is no buying or reselling,” said Hutto. “Everyone you meet is actually growing or producing the product that they are offering at the market, so it really gives you an opportunity to get to know those individuals and where your food comes from.”
She says they couldn’t have made it 25 years without their loyal customers and vendors that show up year after year.
“We’re grateful to Tulsa for always supporting us, and, in turn, we will always be here for you,” Hutto said.
The Tulsa Farmers Market will be open from 7 to 11 a.m. every Saturday until October 22nd, before adjusting its hours for the end of the year.
