ODOT crews are replacing a bridge in Bartlesville that they say will help traffic flow better. Cherokee Bridge over the Caney River in Bartlesville will soon be taken down and replaced in an effort to realign Highway 123.
The new bridge will be just to the east of the current one, and will connect with Delaware Avenue, getting rid of what the city said is an awkward five-leg intersection at Cherokee Avenue and Hensley Boulevard.
ODOT crews will begin work on the new bridge before the old bridge is taken down, but because of the need to use the embankment, the old Cherokee bridge will be closed before the new one is done.
This project is expected to take about two years, with various lane closures in the area during the project.
