A man led police on a pursuit through Oklahoma City Sunday morning. It all started after he called a local pastor threatening that he would hurt himself.
According to police, the pastor got a call from the suspect telling him he was going to harm himself. The pastor then quickly called officers, saying he believed the man was going through a mental health crisis.
"While we were at the church just making sure everyone was safe, the subject that was in the mental health crisis was driving down I-35 when one of our officers noticed his car," said Lt. Jeff Flaggart, with Oklahoma City Police.
But when officers tried pulling him over, he wouldn't stop. The chase continued until officers finally stopped his vehicle near I-235 and Wilshire, taking the man into custody.
"No weapons were recovered at the scene," said Flaggart. "The pastor was just worried because the subject was in a mental health crisis, and they were worried he might harm himself at the church."
Investigators are still working to figure out what this man's true motive was. Thankfully, no one was hurt during the pursuit. Police also said the man will be taken to a mental health hospital for treatment.
"He could face some criminal charges later, but right now we're going to get him the help that he needs," Flaggart said.
That area of I-235 has been cleared and that suspect has not been named yet.
