The University of Oklahoma had plans to raise tuition for both in-state and out-of-state students, but because of the high inflation cost, the university will only increase tuition for out-of-state students.
If each student was a part of this tuition increase, it would have given the university a $7 million budget boost.
With it only affecting out-of-state students, they are looking more at a $4 million increase.
President Joseph Harroz said that OU will also boost its financial aid offers.
For faculty and staff, a three percent raise will go into effect next week.
Other items to note during the Board of Regents meeting is that they approved the OU Polytech Institute in Tulsa, where students can develop skills for careers in the tech industry.
The Norman and Health Science Center will also see expansions and renovations.
Combined, both projects will be 150,000 square feet of space.
Another expansion includes the home of Sooners softball, Love’s Field, with the budget being approved for $42 million that’ll change where the six-time national champions play.
This new softball stadium will hold 3,000 fans, over 42,000 square feet of space with locker rooms, training facilities, sports medicine, recovery facilities, fan amenities, competition lighting, a scoreboard, and parking.
This is set to open in the 2024 season.
