Just days after the CDC's approval of COVID vaccines for children 6 months and up, the Oklahoma State Department of Health says vaccines are ready to be administered.
In total, the state health department ordered more than 37,000 vaccines to be dispersed across the state.
Starting Thursday, the Oklahoma City County Health Department will be fully staffed and ready to serve both Pfizer and Moderna.
Three locations with OCCHD will be offering free vaccines for children 6 months and up.
Those locations include the clinic off Northeast 63rd, the Southern Oaks Clinic off South Western and the West Clinic near Northwest 10th.
The health department says the Pfizer vaccine will come in a series of three doses, while the Moderna will be two doses for children.
Sides effects for kids from the vaccine include the possibility of having sore arms, headaches, fevers and fatigue.
Parents can also talk to staff about their children's other vaccines that may be required for school or daycare while at one the clinics.
“We have plenty of vaccines to meet whatever demand may come and then of course we are always reordering. We are able to re-order every week. There should not be an issue as far as someone coming in and it not being available,” said Stacee Hoye, the Chief of Clinical Services for the Oklahoma City County Health Department.
Walk-ins will be accepted, however OCCHD does prefer people to make an appointment.
According to OCCHD, people wanting a vaccine for their children at the Northeast clinic at 2700 NE 63rd can call 405-419-4200.
Residents needing an appointment at OCCHD’s Southern Oaks Clinic at 6728 S Hudson Avenue can call 405-419-4119.
Clients wanting an appointment at the OCCHD’s West clinic, located at 4330 NW 10th St., should call 405-419-4150.
