The extreme heat in Oklahoma can have a major impact on you car. One roadside assistance company is doing what they can to help drivers.
“My goal for this program is to be able to help those in need that cannot afford roadside assistance or don’t have it on their insurance,” said Alex Wood, owner of Pitstop Roadside Assistance.
After seeing so many vehicles on the side of the road Wood knew he could do something to help.
“I come from volunteer firefighting and what I love is helping people,” said Wood.
He decided to use his resources to help others in need.
“There are programs out there for food, there’s programs out there for shelter, I was thinking why not make a program for roadside assistance for those who cannot afford it,” said Wood.
With triple digit temperatures, having car problems is not just an inconvenience, it can be a matter of life and death.
“I went to Shawnee the other day and I counted thirteen cars on the side of the highway,” said Wood.
So, with a compassionate heart, he set up a way to help, through his company.
“What we’ll do is, if they’re in need and they can’t afford roadside then we will use the program to go ahead and cover them for that roadside,” said Wood.
Wood calls the program “Helping Hands Roadside Assistance”, and although the cost may exceed the means of the company, they are hoping others will help support through a Go-Fund-Me account.
“Everything will be contributed to those that need it. Going out there helping them change their tire, delivering gas, if they’ve locked their keys in their car on a hot day, we can go help them,” said Wood.
With gas prices and temperatures at an all-time high, Wood believes it’s time for us all to come together.
“I’m hoping for it to actually become a trend, I’m hoping to see more people pick up on it,” said Wood.
If you are in need of the program, you can reach them at 833-551-9200. To support the Helping hands roadside assistance program, go to their Go-Fund-Me.
