The City of Wynnewood responded to the public's outcry after an officer allegedly ordered a woman to dispose of a possible fetus.
In a statement Tuesday, the city's attorney stated the DA's office found "no evidence of criminal wrongdoing."
However, according to Garvin County District Attorney Greg Mashburn that's not the case at all. Mashburn called a statement issued by the City of Wynnewood “not true.”
"The last one I opened there was a clot and what appeared to be an umbilical cord, that’s when I couldn't dig anymore because I was scared of what else I would see," said a witness who did not want to be identified.
Controversy swirls around an officer's employment after he responded to an area business where witnesses said he refused to look at what was found inside a restroom.
And while witnesses claim they were traumatized by what they found, in a statement issued on behalf of the city Tuesday, Wynnewood City Attorney Phillip Morton said, "No party reported seeing anything resembling human remains."
The statement goes on to say the investigation concluded after “The responding officer did not find a crime had taken place, and no criminal intent was present."
An impossible conclusion to reach according to witnesses.
“He was like I don’t need to see it, so I just got upset and walked away,” said a witness.
The City of Wynnewood said the officer was placed on administrative leave but was reinstated after "The result of the investigation was presented to the district attorney's office which did not find evidence of criminal wrongdoing."
Garvin County District Attorney Greg Mashburn responded after reviewing the city’s statement and said "That is not a true statement. I have never been contacted about this incident. "
Mashburn said while the deputy chief for Wynnewood Police did call his staff last week "and asked a few questions about it..." [they] "...never presented an investigation or gave us a full statement of the facts."
News 9 called Wynnewood's city attorney to see why the DA had virtually no knowledge of the city's investigation. As of Tuesday night, News 9 had not heard back.
