Tulsa police say a man is behind bars accused of stealing a car from QuikTrip at 11th and Utica and leading officers on a chase.
Police say they used their helicopter to follow the suspect so officers didn't have to get into a high-speed chase.
According to police, the suspect, Malcolm Jenks, took the car around 1 a.m. after the owner left it running while they ran inside the store.
The TPD helicopter pilot saw the car leaving the scene and followed it.
Once police tried to stop the suspect, police already had stop sticks down and say that helped prevent the suspect from going too fast and putting the public in danger.
Officers say the suspect kept going despite blowing out both tires on the vehicle's left side. Police say they were able to spike it one more time which helped catch Jenkins.
Police credit their helicopter for the successful outcome.
"I think it is a safety factor with Police One doing that. They did a tremendous job of being able to direct us in there and allow officers to set up with the tools we are provided to handle it and keep everybody safe. That is our main goal," said TPD Cpt. Jerrod Hart.
Police say Jenkins will be booked into the Tulsa County jail.
