The Guthrie Green park in Tulsa is celebrating a big birthday this week.
It’s been 10 years since the park was created in Tulsa. Prior to 2012, the area was a trucking depot in what some considered an unappealing area of downtown.
"It's hard to believe that where Guthrie Green sits today was once an industrial freight yard without any trees or green grass in sight, and in 2012, this industrial block was transformed into the urban green space that we know and love today, Guthrie Green,” said Kim Jessie, Guthrie Green Senior Director.
Ten years later, the park is a place for people to come together. That’s what happened at today's Birthday Bash. The party was complete with balloons and cake. Food Truck Wednesdays are a favorite, so trucks of several different cuisines were parked for the occasion.
People also kicked back to enjoy music and play games on the lawn.
"What we love doing best is providing free events for the downtown community. Supporting the community, supporting the performing arts, health, and fitness and all of the rich culture that Tulsa has to offer,” Jessie said.
The festivities will continue all week with an Oklahoma-themed movie night on Thursday, a concert on Friday, and pancakes and cartoons on Saturday morning.
